Church Unlimited, Stone Oak
San Antonio, Texas
Programmatic Requirements
As a recent graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Bil Cornelius and his wife, Jessica, had the passion and vision to plant a church; and in the fall of 1997, they chose Corpus Christi as their new home. They literally knocked on doors inviting families to their new church which took place in the living room of their one-bedroom apartment. A few months later, they moved into temporary space in a local elementary, and attendance quickly grew to 200 people. Bay Area Fellowship was born. A steady increase in membership and an added children’s ministry necessitated the purchase of a permanent home in 2000. By 2014, Bay Area Fellowship had launched nine campuses across South and Central Texas. With a number of locations outside the Bay Area, it was time to change the church name. In August of 2014, Church Unlimited was unveiled as the new name along with a new vision to minister on a global level and to take God’s message as far as possible. It was at this time that the church expanded upstate into San Antonio, holding services in the Lopez Middle School.
Design Solutions
Having been the design architect for a design-build firm chosen to construct the main campus and later a satellite campus for the church, both in Corpus Christi, BBA Architects was honored to assist their friends in the design of a permanent home for the San Antonio campus. A one-story 550-seat worship facility, with education space for nursery through elementary age, youth worship space, and administrative offices was designed to meet the facility needs for a growing and vibrant church community.
