Legal Monkeys

2019 AIA Brazos Chapter Honor Award

Programmatic Requirements

Legal Monkeys is a 9-year old startup company that was formed by a previous law firm client. The company acquires electronic medical records for law firms across the country. As a call center, the fast-growing group needed more space to meet its expanding workforce office requirements and collaborative culture. Wanting to remain in downtown Bryan, Texas, the company acquired a former bank building and the remaining city block for parking and future development.

Design Solutions

The existing modern, minimalist designed bank was built in the early 1960s. Transparency, flow and economical space utilization were underlying themes of the design. Within the existing building footprint, the second floor walls adjacent to the original bank lobby were opened up to create a mezzanine. The addition doubled the existing square footage and layout, expanding the mezzanine. First floor functions include the reception area, call center, administrative offices, collaboration rooms and workout gym. The mezzanine provides additional collaboration rooms, kitchen, and living room for informal discussions and team building. Balanced natural light fills the space from the north and south exposures to promote a healthy work environment.
